Deafening
Blinding
Searing
It accosted all of the senses.
April 27th the sky opened up and the mouth of Hell yawned ~ a 200 mph, half-a-mile wide, 132 mile long yawn. As a drunken sailor stumbling down the beach leaves staggered footprints - the storm teetered and tore through hundreds of miles of land and lives. Spinning like the toy of Satan's spoiled child who laughingly destroys all he owns for the sheer joy of watching the destruction; not satisfied until it breaks records set centuries before its' birth.
It was if this living force knew it had only a precious short amount of time to leave its' mark. A race. People and animals raced away, dodged and won ~ some lost. As the volcanoes of old cried out for a virgin ~ this storm demanded any and everyone. Both the innocent and the deserving gone in a split second. The smallest the largest - youngest and oldest - the wise and the ignorant. It neither favored nor forgave anyone or anything.
We called out to God in the rains.
We called out to God in the 200 mph winds.
Surviving the storm but not the destruction.
We were driven down ~ but only to our knees.
